Children’s Medical Association has a long history of providing pediatric services to infants, children and adolescents in our community. Our founder Dr. Joe Caplan was a pediatrician on Long Island, N.Y., and moved to Florida to retire. Dr. Caplan soon discovered he was not ready for a life of leisure, and opened the first office of Children’s Medical Association near Plantation General Hospital in 1966.
CMA expanded in 1973 with the addition of Dr. Oscar Betancourt, a native of Cuba with excellent pediatric training in Chicago and Miami, hired to serve the growing Spanish-speaking community in West Broward. In the 1980s, our core included Dr. Betancourt, Dr. Litvak, Dr. Spunt, Dr. Fernandez, and Dr. Pearson. Our first female, Dr. Sirota, nicknamed “Dr. X,” joined in 1990, followed by Dr. Stavitsky, Dr. Leon, Dr. Valdes, Dr. Louis, Dr. Deulofeut, and Dr. Penson. Fast forward to 2020, we are currently a team of nine board-certified pediatricians and eight advanced nurse practitioners, serving patients 7 days per week, 365 days per year at our CMA offices in Plantation, Tamarac, and Coral Springs, and through telemedicine services when desired. Over the past five decades, it has been our privilege to care for the heart of this community, and we will continue our commitment to be here for you, generation to generation. We welcome you to our CMA family, and look forward to working together to promote the health and wellness of your children and all children.
